In view of the fact that three-fourth of our
population is residing in rural area, there is a big rural-urban divide and
rural areas continue to be characterized by poverty, low level of
productivity and lack of basic minimum services resulting in unabated
migration of population towards urban areas.
In backdrop of this, the government recently adopted the concept of
developing “Model Villages” for over all development of the rural areas. The
idea is not only to provide basic services in rural areas to check migration
of population and improve quality of life to demonstrate the use of latest
technology and ensure integrated development of these areas.
Under the PM’s Reconstruction Plan 57 villages, one in each block
recommended by the elected representatives have been approved for
development as “Model Villages” by the Rural Development Department. The
Project Reports/Action Plans were prepared in consultation with gram
panchayats. The main thrust has been given on the following areas:-
-
Improvement in overall sanitation of the
village including lane/drains.
-
Use of Solar Technology for Street Lights.
-
Creation of essential facilities like CFCs,
Playground and Recreation Parks.
-
Establishment of Rural Informatics Centers.
-
Small shopping Line/Lines for Local Educated
Youths.
Each Model village is being developed at the
approved cost of Rs. 120.00 lacs.. The works are in full swing in the model
villages. 46 CFC/CIC buildings are at finishing stage. Similarly 69 shops
have been completed where as 83 shops are at finishing stage. 897
Lanes/Drains have already been completed whereas 474 Lanes/Drains are in

PM`s Re-construction Plan. The approved cost of the project is Rs.6840 Lacs
( @Rs.120.00 Lacs. per Model Village ). Since the inception of the scheme
